Design archives for the future
Many decades ago, Mr. Alonso became fascinated by the various qualities and technical
possibilities of glass. Collecting crystal and glassware has been one of his
true passions ever since.
Design archives reflect the life and work of designers, manufacturers and institutions
that are or were active in the sector. They are essential sources for scientific
research, publications and exhibitions on design.
Designarchief Vlaanderen collects information about design archives and design
from Flanders. Designarchief Vlaanderen is an initiative of Design museum Gent
and vzw Designcentrum Vlaanderen.
A selection of ten different design archives shows archivalia which reveal something
about a certain designer or object.
A typical feature is the wide diversity of
records: sketches, textile samples, prototypes and scale-models, but also corporate
administration, correspondence, photos, advertising and documentation.
