9 October > 28 November 2004Jo Crepain
Since his first house (which he designed when he was a student) won the major
Belgian Architecture Prize in 1974, Jo Crepain (1950) has created an impressive
oeuvre. Both in Belgium and in the Netherlands, the country which currently commissions
the major part of his assignments.
The wide variety and the ceaseless innovation in his oeuvre must be seen as the
result of a never ending search which led to the creation of some of the most
striking buildings in modern history of Belgian architecture.
Building is in the first place a mental process as far as Crepain is concerned;
the house is the last place to recapture a little piece of paradise. Not just
for the happy few, but pour le plus grand nombre.
