Do the Right DING
Het Arsenaal | 20.04-11.05.2024
Experience design and sustainability in one place!
Do the Right DING is organised from April 20th till May 11th 2024 at Het Arsenaal in Ghent, an inspiring old railway site.
For the event, dedicated to the creation of the 'Gent Waste Brick for DING', the museum invites designers and artists to experiment with recycled waste materials.
The composition of the 'Gent Waste Brick' consists of 63% recycled urban waste materials such as finely ground concrete and white glass and is cured instead of fired. The waste materials will be meticulously filtered and sorted at the production site, before being pressed to the specified shape and size. That whole process produces no emissions, by-products or waste.
Visitors can experience the stone-making process 'live' and watch the designers at work as they experiment with the material. The designers will create an object/project/concept with the material. By doing so, the museum aims to stimulate 'experimentation' and thus explore whether the material can be used for other applications. The results - objects or studies - will be exhibited on site.
The opening weekend (20/21.04.2024 ) and finissage (11.05.2024 ) will feature fascinating lectures, lively debates and various events. Throughout the production process, the venue is open to schools, groups and companies from Monday to Saturday (by reservation), and from Thursday also to the general public. Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in workshops, provided by BC Materials and some of the designers, where they can both be practically involved in the creative process and experience the story of the production and the site, told by skilled storytellers.
