Brocade, velvet, jute, fur… You can clearly see from which fabric this headgear is made. Even more striking is how many different colours and shades Van Eyck uses on this small surface. The high gloss that Van Eyck obtains through the use of transparent, coloured glaze layers can also be found in the work of Francesco Balzano.
In Wieki Somers’ work, on the other hand, there are parallels with the draped headscarves. And just like Van Eyck, Daan Veerman and Thomas Trum have obviously been exploring textures.
