Using a rich palette of green hues, Van Eyck depicted no fewer than 75 species of trees, flowers, and plants in The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb. Multiple shades and references to nature are also evident in the work of, among others, Bela Silva, mischer’traxler,
and Studio Nucleo.
Van Eyck was one of the first painters to work with Spanish green or verdigris, a pigment with a bright, turquoise-like colour. It was made by bringing copper into contact with oxygen.
