The darkest building on earth: that is how the pavilion designed by Asif Khan for the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeonChang is described. The British architect sprayed the 10-metre high construction with Vantablack VBx2 – an aerosol version of Vantablack, the blackest pigment that exists. Rods tipped with tiny lights are attached to the curved exterior walls. As you get closer, the building seems to transform into a starry night sky. ‘I wanted to create the impression of a window cut into space,’ says Khan.
