Finn Juhl, a Danish design icon

During the summer months, the Design museum Ghent presents an interesting exhibition on the work of the Danish designer Finn Juhl (1912-1989). Although he enjoys a great reputation as an architect and furniture designer, he is relatively unknown in Belgium.

As homage to this master the museum brings, in collaboration with the Design museum of Kolding (DK), a unique exhibition on this important Danish designer. Finn Juhl gained fame with his innovative furniture designs in which he challenged traditional concepts and production methods. He gave a soft edge to the lines of wooden modernist furniture, favouring organic shapes which often took the wood to the limits of what was possible. In a climate of functionalism and with his contemporaries like Hans Wegner and Poul Kjaerholm, he developed his own style. In the middle of the 20th century, he was the international Ambassador of the Danish design!
