Laying the First Brick for our new wing DING
A Historic Milestone for Design Museum Gent
It's official! The first brick of our brand-new DING wing has been laid on 15 January 2025. Yesterday, the main contractor Artes, commissioned by the urban development company sogent, placed the first Gent Waste Bricks for DING. This is a major moment, as these circular facade bricks – developed from local waste streams in Ghent – form the foundation of our innovative museum wing. From now on, DING will gradually claim its place in the Ghent cityscape.
The project kicked off back in May 2023 with the crushing of construction debris from the site, which has since been reused as raw material for sustainable building components. After archaeological research, foundation work, and the installation of a solid timber structure, the construction of DING is now truly taking shape.
