The countdown has begun
One more year until the museum opens
The date is official: on 3 October 2026, we will reopen Design Museum Gent! From now on, it's exactly one year until the big day. This will be the moment: we are building a completely new museum. The long-awaited new wing will finally complete the site. It will seamlessly connect all our wings. We will then be ready with a brand-new permanent collection.
The renovated museum will be a real third place. We want to be a meeting place, accessible to everyone. It will be a place where you not only look, but also get involved yourself. Here you can meet each other, have conversations and exchange ideas. The new wing gives us extra space for lectures, workshops and events. What's more, you'll have a lovely courtyard garden, a terrace and perhaps even a relaxation area. Everything will be barrier-free. You can easily walk in for a first introduction to design. Just one more year until we can welcome you!
