In the textile sector there is a specific form of collaboration between designers and so-called éditeurs. Martine Gyselbrecht was commissioned to design her Boro collection by the Tielt-based Van Maele Weavers, which presented the fabrics in 2016 at the Proposte Fair in Como. Based on the offer available at such fairs, éditeurs compose their collections of interior textiles, depending on what suits their style and the prevailing trends. Interior architects then choose from that selection, depending on the requests of their clients. The fabrics shown here were sold by Van Maele to the American Clarence House to make a plaid and upholstery fabric with it. For Martine Gyselbrecht, artistic freedom as a designer is more important than a reputation. Her strength lies in the combination of creativity and technical insight into weaving, thanks to which she can have an impact deep in the production process. After that she lets go of her designs.
