The Fibre Sort machine sorts clothes based on the materials that they are made from. In 2016, Meindertsma fed thousands of woollen sweaters through the machine. The sweaters were then shredded and the fibres were sorted by colour. Meindertsma processed them into Irish Donegal tweed. The coloured speckles are characteristic of this fabric: a traditional way to use coloured wool – once a scarce raw material – as efficiently as possible.
