Maarten Van Severen BE

During the last months of his life, Maarten Van Severen exhibited photos in the gallery of Johan De Coker taken during his travels, or just of moments at home. They bear witness to his ‘wild’ vision of life.

Because objects and my body are made of the same fabric, the vision thereof must in some way be made in the objects, or their manifest visibility must duplicate itself via a secret visibility in the body: ‘nature is inside me’ said Cézanne.

“Quality, light, colour, depth, are only present because they arouse an echo in our bodies, because the body prepares a welcome for them” - Maurice Merleau-Ponty
