Tout au long de son œuvre, le ­designer finlandais a trouvé ­l’inspiration dans la nature. Parfois littéralement, comme pour le Plat « Feuille », mais aussi souvent de façon bien plus ­abstraite comme pour ses sculptures ou le ­saladier en argent et le vase Venini soufflé à la bouche pour lesquels il s’agit pour lui de la vibration harmonieuse entre le matériau et le créateur, étant donné qu’ils sont tous deux faits de la même matière.

“All materials have their own un­written laws. You should never violate the ­material you’re working with. The ­designer’s purpose is to be in harmony with the material. The craftsman has the advantage that at every stage of the work his material is in his hands to feel and command.
