Introducing: DesignPunt

DesignPunt is the hub for contemporary design culture in Flanders. Operating from within Design Museum Gent and fully funded by the Flemish Government, its mission is straightforward: to act as the crucial force that stimulates, connects, and strengthens the entire design ecosystem across the region. It is here to champion design as a vital artistic and cultural discipline.

More Than Just a Think Tank

Its core mandate is to actively drive the sector forward. It achieves this through three primary pillars: developing essential knowledge, encouraging critical reflection on contemporary design, and ensuring the artistic significance of design is visible and understood by the wider public.

Through a dedicated programme, it aims to showcase and discuss the artistic and cultural value embedded in the contemporary design world. But it is also a robust knowledge centre, actively building a rich base of know-how about the sector and ensuring this expertise is widely shared with those who need it most.

The Connector and the Catalyst

DesignPunt sees itself as a critical hub - a nexus where vital connections are made. It is the place where current themes and pressing issues are discussed openly, and where space is actively made for new, diverse voices to emerge and be heard.

Its goal is to be a landscape-enhancing partner by fostering direct links between all key stakeholders. It connects designers, researchers, organisations, curators, policymakers, educators, critics, and journalists. By bringing these varied perspectives together, they facilitate dialogue and collaboration that propels the entire field forward.
