Collection. Models from the Past for the Future
Guided Tour
How can a design collection continue to inspire in 2026? We answer that question on the tour of the collection presentation. We dive into history and take you back to 1903, when Design Museum Gent was founded. Back then, the museum was primarily a gathering place where examples of great design were on display. Craftsmen were confronted with societal and technological changes in those days. The museum gave them information and inspiration to subsequently get started on their own.
Today, as then, we need imagination to meet the challenges of the future. We look at the 'model museum' of the past through today's eyes. Which objects are still surprisingly relevant? And which call for critical comment or extra nuance today?
Together we will explore the collection through five current themes: Copy, Comfort, Migration, Folds and Connections. Our guide will challenge you to look beyond the form and discover the story behind the object.
